5 Key Takeaways from the 2017 State of Growth Driven Design Report

As an agency that sells Growth Driven Design services, I was incredibly stoked for the opportunity to share my experiences with HubSpot for their 2017 State of Growth Driven Design Report.

I am even more excited to share with you what I deemed to be the 5 Key Takeaways from the 2017 State of Growth Driven Design Report!

Quick Review

For those of you who are new to HubSpot or just now exploring Growth Driven Design, I wanted to very quickly review what Growth Driven Design actually is.

Growth Driven Design, or GDD, is a website design process that focuses on incremental improvements based on user testing, as opposed to traditional website redesign that is more focused on the design preferences of the developer.

GDD is broken into three key stages: Strategy, Launch Pad, and Continuous Improvement.

5 Key Takeaways from the 2017 State of Growth Driven Design Report

Strategy

During the strategy phase, agencies like NR Media Group will work with our clients to develop a strategy around how to solve the problems that users face when interacting with the current website and develop a wish list of items for the new website.

Launch Pad Website

According to HubSpot's Luke Summerfield, the Founder of GDD, a Launch Pad Website, "... a website that looks and performs better than what you have today, but is not your final product."

This may sound like a fancy way of saying that the Launch Pad website is a half-built website, but that is not the case. Launch Pad websites look just like any other site — it really is just a change in mentality and the processes used to build the site.

Launch Pad websites focus heavily on drilling down to the basic functionality of the website. From there, the goal is to build it out through continuous improvement.

Continuous Improvement

Do you remember in elementary school and middle school when you learned about hypothesizing and thought, "When in my life am I EVER going to do this again?!"... Well, here is your chance!

The continuous improvement stage of GDD is when we use data that has been collected from user testing and begin to hypothesize and test different website options based on that data. This can be anything from linking text copy that was not previously linked, or changing a CTA button to be more noticeable. The amount of changes that can be made is endless!

Now that you know the basics, let's jump into those key takeaways from the 2017 State of GDD report!

Key Takeaway #1: A site launch can be done in almost half the time

5 Key Takeaways from the 2017 Growth Driven Design Report

According to the 2017 State of GDD Survey respondents, customers who use Growth Driven Design see a faster turnaround time on their website launch. Whereas traditional web design typically takes 108 days, a launch pad website only takes about half the time.

Key Takeaway #2: It has a bigger impact on the business

Agencies who participated in the 2017 State of GDD survey said that organizations who utilized the GDD methodology saw more leads and more revenue after 6-months than organizations who used traditional web design.

According to the survey, agencies using GDD reported seeing 16.9 percent more leads after 6-months, and 11.2 percent more revenue with clients.

Don't believe GDD can get your company results? Check out this case study!

As Luke Summerfield says, "The result [of implementing GDD practices] is ...You will be creating happier users, more business value and may never need to redesign from scratch again."

Key Takeaway #3: HubSpot + GDD = Perfection!

5 Key Takeaways from the 2017 State of Growth Driven Design Report

Agencies who participated in the 2017 State of GDD survey said that organizations who utilized the GDD methodology on a HubSpot platform saw more leads and higher revenue when compared to those using the GDD methodology on Wordpress.

We've found this to be true within our own agency due to the increased insights and functionality of the HubSpot platform compared to Wordpress.

Key Takeaway #4: Your site gets launched ON TIME

According to survey respondents, websites that used the GDD methodology were more likely to be delivered on-time versus websites using traditional design methods. On average, traditional websites were reported to run at least two weeks late.

Why? The real reason is the launch pad website. As mentioned in the definition, the launch pad site focuses on functionality and builds from there. This allows agencies to build a shippable product faster and more efficiently for the client.

Key Takeaway #5: GDD is the new wave of website design

5 Key Takeaways from the 2017 State of Growth Driven Design Report

It is pretty clear to me that GDD is the next big thing in the world of website design. With more than 940 certified agencies, GDD has taken over the map... and this is only after having been launched for a total of 12-months!

Because the world of GDD serves such a large community, Luke Summerfield and his team at HubSpot created a slack channel for agencies and GDD users. This slack channel serves thousands of users who use this space to collaborate and grow their GDD business.

Final Notes

With more than 54 percent of marketers agreeing that their website is the most important asset in the growth of their business, business owners need to take a hard look at their website redesign process.

More than likely it's broke— so check out Growth Driven Design... and fix it.
