Anchor_app.jpgIf you're a mobile app guru specifically on the iOS side of the fence you've probably heard the recent buzz about the new app Anchor.fm

This app is truly changing the way that people connect around the world. So, what is it anyway?

Anchor for iOS is a free mobile application that allows users to broadcast short audio clips to a global audience. Think Twitter for your voice. You can record and post your "wave" any time or any place. Listeners can then talk back sparking a group conversation that has never before been possible on a social network.

But if you're thinking this is just another one of those social media fads, you're wrong. Anchor is here to stay. Here's why you should join the Anchor conversation along with a few of the features.

Incredibly easy onboarding process

The onboarding process for this mobile app is solely the reason for why I am still an active user today. Once you create your account, the app takes you through every functional aspect of the platform. This process is incredibly smooth and most likely why the app is resonating so well with iOS users.

Unlike many other mobile apps there is almost no learning curve, allowing users to dive right into the conversation. The functionality is very straight-forward and lacks complexity.

So, how does it work?

Anchor_app_2.pngOnce you have your profile configured and set up, you're ready to create your first wave! Recording couldn't be easier. This is perhaps one of my favorite features of the app. It gives you the option to record in one of three ways.

First, you can simply hold your phone up to your ear as if you are on a phone call. If you're on the commute to work or class this method works great.

The second option is just like talking on speaker phone. Simply hold the red record button down and you'll be well on your way to posting your first wave.

The final option is similar to the previous two. The only difference is that you can lock the record button by swiping up after you hold it down. This allows for hands-free recording. Here's what a wave about Star Wars sounds like:

All this is great, but you may be wondering how other people in the Anchor community can listen and respond to my waves?

How will other people find and listen to my waves?

Just like every other social network, hashtags are the most common way to navigate through different threads. Each day new topics are trending with hundreds of different threads to explore. For example, one of my favorite threads that is often trending on the app is the question of the day or #QotD. Users pose one question giving their audience an opportunity to provide their input.

Another method to get your waves in front of the most people is simply toAnchor_app_3.png build your audience. Just like with any social media platform, consistently using the app and engaging with other users will help build a following.

As a last resort, you can also invite other users that you are following to reply to your wave. However, be careful in doing so. Abusing this feature of the app can often push users to unfollow you and in some cases even block you.

Although these are just a few of the core features of the app there are many more that make it a unique social networking site unlike any other. If you're passionate about podcasting, this app is surely for you. Anxious to get started? Download it for free on the app store
